Frequently asked questions

What exactly am I downloading?

A single comma-separated file, us-zip-codes.csv, with 2,000 rows and 8 columns: zip, city, state, county, timezone, area_code, latitude, longitude. It opens directly in Excel, Google Sheets, or any database tool.

Can I use this data commercially?

The base geography is published under CC BY 4.0, which permits commercial use with attribution to the source. Area codes are factual telephone numbering data. This page is not legal advice; check the linked source licenses for your specific use case.

Why does the area_code column sometimes list several codes?

Many metro areas use overlay area codes, so one ZIP can be served by several codes. They are listed slash-separated (for example 212/332/347/646/718/917/929 for 10001). A single-code ZIP shows just one value.

How current is the data?

The underlying compilation is the May 2026 vintage of curated-us-zips. ZIP codes change slowly, but the USPS is the authoritative source if you need guaranteed up-to-the-day accuracy for production address validation.

Do I need an account or email to download?

No. The CSV downloads directly from this page with one click. No registration, no email capture, no trial.
